Some City officials and passerby's got to see a unique demonstration Friday near the Bayfront seawall -- a new Marina utility boat is designed to pick up trash and oil from bay waters. The city is applying for a $700,000 grant to pay for the boat. If approved, the funds would come from money put aside by the oil giant BP. It's the result of the Deepwater Horizon spill back in 2010.The new boat called a Marine Emergency Response Vessel, or MERV would make incidents like the recent red tide fish kill much easier to clean up.It could take a year before the City learns if its grant application was successfulclick here for the whole story
